Sept 30, 2015

Man, we just got back from almost 2 weeks in New England, had a pair of amazing shows there and even had 2 whole days that I would technically call "vacation".*  We were on Cape Cod, had some great fried clams (Cream & Cone) and I had my favorite ice cream - Maple Walnut from Sundae School in Dennisport.  (I get this ice cream once a year when we go back.)  And then I went for about a 10 mile bike ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail.  Which would've been awesome had I not broken the lock ring on the rear axle of the bike.**

So now we are back in SoCal.  Did I mention that we're nominated for 3 different readers poll awards in the OC Weekly?  Riddle & The Stars is nominated for "Best Indie Band" and The Fallen Stars is nominated for "Best Live Band" and "Best Rock Band".   It would be cool to win but it's really nice just to be nominated.

This coming Saturday will be our last full band show of the year.  We need a little break from all the globetrotting and what-not.  We're going to work on some new tunes and we even have a couple of online Firefly events that we will be part of - so that's cool.  More on that as it develops.

Saturday, Oct 3
Father's Pub
Ponderossa St, Santa Ana, CA
w/ The Damngivers
8 pm and free!

Again, this is our last full band show of the year, so come on out and rock with us.  I'm even going to make a cake to bring.  Why?  Well, it's my birthday as well*** so I'm bringing a cake to share.  It's my mom's recipe.****

We have lots of stuff we're working on in the coming months that's why we need to concentrate on getting them done.  Ovation TV is using our Firefly themed songs to promote their "Firefly Fridays", we are working on writing and recording the last 5 songs for the Firefly series, we're planning a spring tour with Ben Riddle for across the US tour with a stop in Nashville to record with former Uncle Tupelo/Wilco drummer Ken Coomer******, trying to figure out if we are going to Australia or Europe in fall of 2016, working on video ideas for RATS album and talking about shooting a documentary on our cross country tour.

So that's a lot.

And then there's this - My Aunt Mary Ann is pretty amazing.  She has been recognized by the World Health Organization for her work with women around the world and women's issues, lots of incredible stuff but this month she is flying to Kenya to work with Dr. Hillary Mabeya who treats women with obstetric fistula, he started performing surgeries in an abandoned house and now they are building a proper medical center.  If you get a second and have a dollar to spare - please think about sending it their way.  Help change a persons life on the other side of the world.  Here's their website and here's a video about what they have done and are doing.  It really is amazing.  I had no idea this was even a thing, you live your life in your little bubble until someone shows you what a big difference a little help can be.  Dr. Mabeya has made it his life's work to treat women with obstetric fistula and in the developing nations this is HUGE.

That's all for now, hope to see you soon.

*By "vacation" I mean, we didn't work or do a show.
**Don't need to know a lot about bikes to know that that's bad.  I've never seen or heard of one of these breaking but there I was walking home in the rain.  Actually, it was still pretty nice.
***Technically, not until Monday but close enough.  And Please no presents.
