Heart Like Mine features sixteen tracks of Americana rock n' roll in the mold of Bruce Springsteen, the Pretenders, Wilco and Whiskeytown.

"The music is authentic, rootsy and beautifully constructed; it's familiar and fresh all at once."
~The HB Independent

The album also includes contributions from a handful of talented musicians, including Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, Wallflowers) on Hammond B3, Caitlin Cary (Whiskeytown) on violin and Danny Ott (Chris Gaffney, Dave Alvin) on guitar and lap steel.

about us

The Fallen Stars are an Americana Rock band from Southern California that believes a good story can break your heart and a driving guitar riff can put it back together again, all in the space of a three minute song.

welcome browncoats!

Are you a fan of Firefly? Then you'll love our new music project, Leaves on the Wind! Our goal is to write a brand new original song based on each episode of the tv series Firefly, plus the feature film Serenity. Fifteen songs in all - just right for a full length album, we hope! Keep an eye on our Browncoats page to follow our progress!

Street Lit

Putting a message on a wall can be a much more effective way to reach the masses than expecting them to go find a book and learn it themselves. Some men just want to watch the world learn, regardless of medium. This collection of street arts details some memorable lines from famous books, hit the pictures to see which author and title, if you didn’t already recognize them immediately.

New EP, More shows

So we had a great weekend of shows here in SoCal, then we went in the studio yesterday and recorded 5 songs for our new EP.  Why an EP?  Because our last album took like 2 years to make, like $15K and it's an hour long and as soon as we finished it folks were like "Got any new stuff?"  Plus I believe that the "Album" as a collection of songs is a dead idea.  A concept album - that's something different.  I'm all about the EP right now.  Could we put more on it?  Of course.  More EP's, spread out over time.  It's like when the Clash decided they were going to do a single a month.  Okay, so that only lasted one month for them but "Bankrobber" is a pretty terrific track.

Anyhoo.  New EP will be done inside a month.  That's the plan.

Plus, having Brian around has been a lot of fun.  He played drums with us for like 2 years and we did a lot of recording in that time but none of it made it onto an album or cd.  So we even did a song or two that we were playing back then that didn't get recorded.  It's nice to have these portable, cd time capsules.  We're marking time with music.

Hope you dig.  We'll be sharing soon.

In the meantime - we have 4 shows this week:  Las Vegas, Flagstaff, Tucson, Tempe.  See you out there!

“As anyone who’s struggled to start a band, get shows, record music, and become a certified rock star knows, coming up with a name is half the challenge. A linguistic take on how we name bands today.”

Interesting article on the challenge of finding a good band name.

Spring Tour, Free Spaghetti, New Firefly video and a Free song

First off. We grew up right outside of Boston and we just want to send some love back to our friends, fans and families back there. Everyone that we know somehow escaped the horror of last week and for that we are very thankful but still very sad for the devastation that went down.

We may live in SoCal but our hearts are all Boston. We love that dirty water, the frustrated women who all have to be in by 12 o'clock, Down by the banks of the River Charles. Boston, you're our home.

So the free song this week is of course "Massachusetts". You may already have it but that's how it's got to be.

Do you dig the picture above? Our friend Emma from The Potential Lunatics took that one. I like my hair in that one. You can almost see Matt Frohlich on the drums and Tracy has her Rhythm Nation 1814 jacket on. Good stuff. That's from our Coach House show last month. Good times. I'd also like to mention that we met a great singer/songwriter by the name of Ry Bradley at that show. Super nice guy and really talented ~ he's easy on the eyes too.

What's this about a tour? Oh WAIT!! I almost forgot. You know how we're doing the songs for the tv show Firefly? Well song/video #2 is up for viewing! Dig it here. Matt played the cajon, Tracy and I sang and I even got some spacey e-bow on there. Plus that whole album project has it's own page on our website here.

Yeah, tour and free spaghetti. What? Well, we are kicking off our spring tour here in Huntington Beach at The Marlin Bar and it's spaghetti night there. THE FIRST TWO PEOPLE THAT EMAIL ME BACK GET A FREE SPAGHETTI DINNER!! Damn straight.

The tour dates are in the picture above but I'll put them in here as well. Plus - we're doing some recording next week with Brian "Magic Hands" Matteson on the kit. Brian was our drummer before Gary but then he moved to Wisconsin and now he's coming back out and we're finishing up some songs we started with him and making a new cd. We'll be back at Secret Ninja Studios to do some of it (so I don't have to engineer at the same time as play guitar!) and then up to our buddy Rami's studio for some B3 overdubs while he's on break from playing with the Foo Fighters. I'm hoping we'll have all that done in a few weeks.*

Oh and Brian is flying out to do this tour with us. Did I mention that? We've got some surprises for you at these shows!

So we'd love to see you out there. We're going to be tearing it up on this tour. The little self-imposed break from shows that we (mostly) did for the beginning of this year has left us really fired up to rock. We'll be playing songs from all 3 of our albums and some from the upcoming disc as well.

See you soon!

*Ha!
**The Marlin Bar's spaghetti is shockingly good. I'm not going to say it's the best I've ever had because that would be insane. My in-laws are Italian. But I will say that it's way better than what you would expect from a neighborhood bar & grill.

leavesonthewindfireflyproject:

The second song for the Leaves on the Wind music project is up!

Right Thing To Do is based on Firefly episode 2: The Train Job and delves into the moral tightrope that the Serenity crew regularly faces. Is it possible to be both criminal and honorable at the same time? (Lyrics)
